Site Management

24/7 Server Access
Update your site content any time of the day or night via your favorite FTP program or use Telnet or SSH to log in to your shell account. Also, customers can manage their files securely via the SCP protocol with programs such as WinSCP.

Shell Access via Telnet and SSH
Advanced users will enjoy administering their site via the command line (telnet or SSH). Dozens of standard unix utilities are available, such as bash, diff, perl, python, ruby, scp, rsynch, ispell, vi, pico, jed, ex, pine, ping, nslookup, traceroute, whois, ncftp, mysql, mysqldump, zip, tar, gzip, chmod, wget, htpasswd, sort, uniq, wc, sed, awk and more.

Visual Traffic Statistics
Analyze your site traffic with graphs and charts and reports produced by Webalizer. These statistics detail how much web traffic you have and where it's coming from, with detailed breakdowns. Every plan comes with Webalizer's site statistics viewer as a standard feature.


Enhanced Traffic Statistics
Use Wusage and Power Phlogger to gain even more insight into your site's traffic. Wusage gives a bit more detailed information about your traffic than our standard Webalizer package. PPhlogger tracks data in real time and gathers more detailed information about each visitor to your site. Watch as visitors go from page to page, find out where they are and how they got to your site.

Disk Space
Disk space is the amount of data that you can store on our web servers. For average websites, 100 MB allows for the storage of over 3,000 distinct web pages & images. That's more than enough for most websites. Each of our plans has varying amounts of disk space.

Disk usage beyond what is included in your plan is billed at a rate of 25 cents per megabyte each month, based on maximum usage.


Monthly Data Transfer/Bandwidth Usage
Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transmitted from your website to your visitors. For average web pages, 1 Gigabyte allows for over 35,000 page views each month, which is more than enough for most websites.



E-mail Services
We can host your e-mail accounts on our server, or forward your e-mail to existing accounts you may have at work or with your Internet service provider. If you need more mailboxes than your plan includes, you can get additional mailboxes at $1 each, per month.


Unlimited Addresses
All hosting plans include unlimited e-mail aliases and mail forwarding. Even with just one mailbox, you can receive mail at hundreds of addresses @yourdomain. You can also combine this capability with sorting features of your e-mail client, simulating hundreds of mailboxes.


POP/IMAP Mailboxes
Mailboxes are individual e-mail accounts, with distinct login information. Each mailbox can receive mail from multiple addresses @yourdomain. If you will have many people checking personal mailboxes at your domain, they should each have a separate mailbox. Mailboxes are easily configured in your Prudens Control Panel.

Browser-accessible Webmail
You can access your e-mail with any web browser, from any machine, by logging into your Control Panel.


Virus and Spam Protection
Your security and privacy is important to us, so we include spam and virus protection with all Prudens accounts. Incoming mail is scanned for viruses before it even touches your mailbox, and, with our SpamControl feature, you can customize how our system detects and handles unwanted spam.


Domains

Our accounts allow you to use your own domain name (e.g., www.your-name.com) for your website. Don't have a domain name? We also offer domain name registration and management.

Our system allows you to start accepting traffic instantly at any "subdomain" simply by creating a subdirectory with the same name. For instance, to create the subdomain "my" at example.com, you can create a subdirectory named "my" and then traffic to http://my.example.com will be routed there.


Domain Aliases
If you have registered multiple domain names we can point them all to the same website for $1/month each.


Subdomains
A Subdomain is the name that comes before your domain name, as in subdomain.yourdomain.com. For example, a subdomain of mycars.com would be chevy.mycars.com or honda.mycars.com. Prudens hosting plans allow you to set up as many subdomain as you like, and they are free of charge.





Database
 Many of our plans give you 1 or more MySQL databases. Additional databases can be added easily through your Control Panel. Managing your database, including adding, modifying, and removing tables and records, is easy using your graphical database management tool in the Control Panel.

Any of our e-commerce plans will allow you to securely accept credit card information online. However, you will need a payment gateway if you plan to process those card in real-time. HTTPS Security (SSL)
SSL allows your website to send and receive sensitive information securely. SSL is a technology that encrypts data to make it nearly impossible for someone to "snoop" data as it is being passed from one machine to another. The most popular use for SSL is sending credit card and other payment information to online stores.

There are two SSL options at Prudens:

"Shared" SSL. If you don't have your own secure certificate, you can protect areas of your site using our certificate through https://secure.Prudens.com/yourdomain.com/. This is included with some hosting plans at Prudens.

SSL Certificate for your Domain. If you have or plan to get your own secure certificate (purchased separately for $75/year), you can receive secure encrypted SSL traffic directly to https://www.yourdomain.com. For the installation of your company's certificate, there is a $50 setup fee.



Optional Services
From extra mailboxes to real-time credit card processing, our hosting plans can grow and scale as your site's demands increase.



Mailing Lists/Listserv
Mailman, a web based mailing list manager, allows you to send e-mail to a large list of recipients all at once. Additional lists are available for $5 per month. There is no limit on the number of subscribers but all list traffic is added to your bandwidth usage total.
